Substitute Opportunities

All prospective substitutes must submit an application for "Future Substitute Teacher" through the WPSD on-line  Frontline Recruit and Hire  (https://www.applitrack.com/wpsd/onlineapp/) and must have a valid Missouri Substitute Certificate. To obtain a substitute certificate, you must register on the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s website (www.dese.mo.gov). As you will learn on the website, you will be required to submit official college transcripts showing the completion of at least 60 college credit hours directly to DESE, and have your fingerprints captured for a background check through the MACHS Fingerprint Portal (www.machs.mo.gov). The four digit code for West Platte substitutes on the MACHS website is 1625.

To apply for a substitute certificate:

Go to: www.dese.mo.gov

On left hand side: Click: "Educator Quality"

  • Click: "Educator Certification"
  • Click: "Substitute Certification Web Application"
  • Click: "Need User ID"

Once you have set up your user ID, you should be able to follow the directions to apply for your substitute certificate. On the main DESE website, there is a link to a Power Point presentation on the complete process, and there is also a link to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that is very helpful.

After DESE issues your substitute certificate, your background check has cleared, and you have submitted your on-line application through the TalentEd Portal, your name can be added to the list of substitutes who can be called.
