POSITION TITLE: Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Learning

F.L.S.A.: Exempt, Administrative

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of two years of successful teaching experience. Master's degree or higher in Curriculum Development or Educational Leadership and valid Missouri certification. Prior principal experience preferred. Effective communication skills. Effective team-building and organizational skills.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months, benefits according to Board policies.

JOB GOAL: The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Learning is responsible for providing effective instructional leadership and is accountable for the school's operation. Major responsibilities include the educational program, professional and classified staff, student development, facility maintenance and management, fiscal management activities, and developing effective community relations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with teachers and principals to direct, coordinate and facilitate instructional improvement initiatives.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of high quality local assessments to meet state requirements and track student progress on state standards.
  • Develops and administers the district’s assessment program.
  • Develops and implements program evaluations for all District instructional programs.
  • Assists teachers and administrators in interpreting assessment and evaluation information in making programmatic and instructional decisions.
  • Collaborates with other District personnel in developing and implementing quality educational programs and evaluations.
  • Provides technical assistance in research, analysis, and assessment design to District personnel.
  • Facilitate the development of curriculum-embedded assessments
  • Coordinate district-wide common assessments.
  • Support teachers in the development of classroom assessments
  • Manage and provide support for online assessment systems
  • Develop and distribute an assessment newsletter
  • Develop and present reports for assessments and surveys
  • Coordinate the administration of district standardized assessments.
  • Coordinate the administration of district-wide formative assessments.
  • Coordinate grading and reporting protocol and practices
  • Provide professional development regarding classroom assessment, grading, and other areas as needed
  • Make public presentations at BOE meetings and select conferences
  • Develops annual and long-range instructional goals of the district.
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance and progress of the district’s instructional program.
  • Identifies and enlists community agencies and individuals to support the district’s instructional program.
  • Develops and monitors the annual department budget within the guidelines of the district and/or state.
  • Ensures that program objectives are appropriate and effectively monitored.
  • Applies a working knowledge of federal, state and district requirements to revise instructional and educational programs.
  • Develops professional development activities to meet identified needs.
  • Ensures that district CSIP objectives are incorporated into the district’s professional development plan.
  • Works with the district’s PDC Committee to assure site-based coordination and implementation of building CSIP goals.
  • Maintains current knowledge of effective instructional strategies and practices that support and enhance program effectiveness.
  • Evaluates the professional development program on a regular basis to assure program effectiveness.
  • Evaluates curricular resources and serves as a resource to the educational staff.
  • Establishes and coordinate a cycle of curriculum review/revision as well as the acquisition and implementation of material resources to support these cycles.
  • Reviews lesson plans and confers with teachers to link teaching/learning activities with educational goals.
  • Develops and demonstrates effective communications through regular staff meetings, building communications, newsletters, and personal contacts.
  • Ensures that transitional programs are in place for incoming students.
  • Develops a comprehensive co-curricular and extra-curricular program that supports the development of students.

  • Coordination of the A+ Program
  • Monitor and ensure that all needed documents and data have been submitted
  • Maintain, order, and inventory appropriate departmental supplies including testing materials
  • Scan and process data collection forms
  • Data entry and filing
  • Maintains District curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning website.
  • Provides professional development to administrators and teachers in the area of data use and assessment.
  • Maintains current knowledge on state and federal requirements in the areas of assessment and school improvement.
  • Serves on committees as directed.
  • Develops and monitors an annual budget within the guidelines of the district and or state.
  • Cooperates with, assists, and supports other administrators in the analysis and solution of their administrative problems when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Adheres to good safety practices.
  • Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: An individual who holds this position must frequently move in and around buildings and grounds to visit classrooms, attend meetings and supervise bus loading and unloading areas and sit for an hour or more at a time. An individual who holds this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. The position requires a moderate amount of travel.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. The individual who holds this position is frequently required to work irregular or extended hours.
