Special Services

West Platte R-II provides special education and related services to students identified as disabled under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and who require such services in order to receive a free appropriate public education.

Special education programs and related services are provided for students who have been found eligible with the following educational disabilities: autism, deaf-blindness, deafness and hearing impairments, emotional disturbance, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, OHI (other health impairment), orthopedic impairment, specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, visual impairment, young child with developmental delays.

The Board of Education of West Platte R-II adopted a Local Plan for Compliance with State Regulations Implementing Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) which governs the provision of special education services within the school district. The district has policies and procedures in place to ensure the provision of special education services to children (ages 3-21) in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Special education services in West Platte R-II consists of specifically designed instruction that provides students the opportunity to access and make progress within the general education curriculum.
