Athletic Director

POSITION TITLE: Athletic Director

F.L.S.A. STATUS: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid Missouri teaching certificate. MA in Athletic Administration desirable with coaching experience preferred.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 183 days plus benefits according to Board policy.

JOB GOAL: To oversee and organize the entire athletic program at West Platte Jr./Sr. High.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Organize and oversee the entire athletic department.
  • Administer the entire athletic budget for each school year.
  • Schedule and contract contests for all activities.
  • Contract all game officials for activities.
  • Schedules transportation for away events.
  • Observe and evaluate all head coaches within the athletic department in conjunction with the secondary principal.
  • Make recommendations to secondary principal for rehiring of coaches.
  • Help supervise home and away events as scheduled.
  • Assure that all schedules are kept current and posted.
  • Ensure that all MSHSAA paperwork is turned in on time (e.g. Eligibility Lists).
  • Ensure that all MSHSAA and West Platte policies and guidelines are followed.
  • Ensure that all athletic facilities are being well-maintained.
  • Maintain accurate records and results each year for all activities.
  • Assure that scores and information are provided to appropriate media outlets.
  • Schedule the use of athletic facilities, including use by outside groups.
  • Attends state and local Athletic Directors meetings as necessary.
  • Serve as the school liaison with the Booster Club/Quarterback Club as designated.
  • Develop positive relations with students and parents. This includes proper dress, language, demeanor, and student/teacher relations.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly walking, hearing, and speaking, being able to communicate in noisy environments. Have close, moderate, and distance vision ability: as well as the ability to lift, turn, bend, twist, and carry.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: Employee will be required to regularly work inside and outside, which may involve inclement weather, including rain, snow, and temperatures below freezing or in excess of 100 degrees. The noise level could be occasionally loud.
